CALL-OUT FOR VOLUNTEERS: WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN 2017

We Can! Singapore is gearing up to begin preparations for our White Ribbon Campaign 2017, happening from 25 November to 1 December.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global movement of men and boys working to end male violence against women and girls. We Can! is looking for volunteers to join our organising team for the upcoming campaign!

Last year, we invited Michael Kaufman, co-founder of the White Ribbon campaign, to conduct a series of talks and workshops on active fatherhood and gender violence. In 2015, the organising team put together thought-provoking videos about gender-based violence and a social media campaign, as well as organised a motorbike rally where male volunteers took to the streets to raise awareness about the campaign and distribute white ribbon pins to the public. What will we do this year to raise awareness about gender-based violence? It’s up to you! If you’d like to be part of this important and transformative experience, we invite you to join our organising team! Your ideas and contributions will drive the upcoming White Ribbon Campaign and bring it to life. No experience is necessary, just a heart for social change. Men and boys: It’s time to stand against violence.

This year, We Can! is joining hands with the White Ribbon Campaign, calling on men and boys to oppose violence against women by wearing a white ribbon for a week.

Each white ribbon represents our hope for a better world. A world where healthy relationships and gender equality are the norm, a world where what makes a man is not aggression and violence, but respect and care for the safety of women and girls.

Join us for our Ride Against Violence

On 28 November 2015, we’ll be on the road for our Ride Against Violence rally, the first of its kind in Singapore!

Organised in partnership with Harley-Davidson and Chrysler Jeep with volunteers from Beyond Social Services, come hang out with our bikers and Jeepers and get your very own White Ribbon here:

Catch Neil Humphreys at this year’s We Can! Arts Fest

We’re super excited to feature guest speaker, Neil Humphreys, at RALLY this year! Neil is a best-selling author in Singapore and an anti-violence ambassador – he hopes to call on other men and boys to take a stand against violence.

More about the White Ribbon Campaign

White Ribbon first began in Canada in 1991 and has since become a global movement of men and boys across 60 countries taking pledging to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls.

Attend a Change Maker workshop and learn about violence against women and how we can all play a part in its prevention.

YES, ALL MEN!

Yes, all men can do their part for gender equality.

Yes, all men can work to end sexism and violence.

Yes, all men can support boys and men who are bullied, harassed or abused.

Yes, All Men, a new initiative by We Can!, supports men and boys in ending gender-based violence. Together, we’ll look for new, better answers to the question: what does it mean to ‘be a man’?

You’ve heard it before: “Be a man.” “Man up.” “Grow a pair.” Young men are constantly told that they have to live up to some idea of “manliness”. What impact does this have?

When people are taught that being a man means being “not feminine”, is femaleness bad and shameful? How are men taught to see women? How are those lessons passed on?

Let’s start honest conversations about the men we are and men in our lives. Let’s talk about how young men are boxed in and silenced. Let’s talk about how a stifling, rigid view of masculinity has hurt many of us.

G44A0821 (1) Most importantly, let’s talk about the difference men can make. We know men who do this every day. Men who change the rules of the game, to create a freer, safer society for everyone: for women, for genderqueer people, and for men who are different from them.

Yes, All Men is a dedicated space for men and boys to talk about gender and take action for a better future. A future where nobody says “don’t be such a girl”. Where no boy is bullied for being a “sissy” or harassed for being gay.

Yes, All Men: because all men have a stake in gender equality, and all men have the power to make change.
